If you've ever had a connecting flight delayed, you know what a nightmare that can be with deposits for hotels at your desired destination. Well, I can say the staff at The Lakefront Anchorage went out of their way to make sure it worked out fairly, and that I enjoyed my stay. Even before I ever checked in, Pollar at the front desk was most helpful over the phone. She assured me that whenever I did get there, there'd be a room ready. I showed up late the next evening, and the sun was very much still out. Needless to say, my journey had been longer than expected, but then again, when traveling alone you have to expect the unexpected, and then hope someone like Lee is waiting at the front desk to check you in. Lee's demeanor was SO pleasant! He not only expediently got me checked in, he also had great recommendations on food and things to do in the area. I ended up ordering delivery from Capri Pizza. I'm not sure I'll write a separate review for them, but they had world class pizza, and the gentlemen who brought me the pizza, as well as his wife back at the restaurant, clearly put a lot of effort and pride into their food and it showed. Speaking of food, back at The Lakefront, they have their own restaurant, The Flying Machine. I went there for breakfast probably 5 times. I don't remember the name of the very helpful lady (Host, server, all-rounder) that I saw several mornings there, but we had memorable conversations, and she was supposed to follow me on Instagram. I'm sure the little piece of paper just got lost. Lastly, the GM... Wow! Malae went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed everything. She also reached out on my behalf to the knuckle heads over at Expedia regarding the repeated e-mails they were sending insisting the hotel couldn't help me with that first night my flight was delayed. I could not be more impressed with the ENTIRE staff. Furnishings... The decor in the lobby was really appropriate for an Alaskan wilderness theme. Everything was clean, and there was comfortable seating. Neat paintings, sculptures, (real) stuffed animals, etc. greeted your eyes at every turn. It was neat that it was located on a lake that sees the housing, taking off and landing of float planes! There are common areas that you can watch from large windows on the lake. The rooms were perfect! Cool Moose-shaped lamp greets you on the way in. They're quiet, with blackout curtains and mine had a comfortable king size bed. If you have the chance, definitely stay at The Lakefront Anchorage!
